It could cause Swift fuel and that stuff GAMI is
making to be approved. Swift fuel costs about $2/gal and will not go up
and down in price like Avgas.
Swift fuel could be a viable replacement
for 100LL, but not any time soon. Current laboratory scale production
costs are about $50/gallon. Swifts claim that at large commercial
production scale the production cost (not retail cost) could be $2.00/ga. More
unbiased reports suggest that if introduced, initial retail price would be
about $10.00/ga. If, and when, it is available for something near current
100LL prices, it could be accepted.
But with rotary engines we don’t
care about that. We just want mogas without ethanol – or at least less
than 10% ethanol.
