Ok.  I felt a little inspired/guilty after that.  Truth is, I've been dragging my feet a bit, 'cause I've been scared of it.  You know that feeling of dread you get right before you close something up for good.  Something that is meant to stay together, and having to take it apart again will mean days of work?  That's how I've been feeling about the engine lately.  Dreading to fill it with water and oil.  Just knowing I will have to undo it all.

I'm over that, I guess.  I was able to get the shroud on before the boss came in to drag me to the gym this afternoon.  After reading your post, I went down, in my pajamas, bolted the gearbox up to the engine, and put the power to the starter.  Nice whirring sound this time.  None of that squealing.  Nice clearance gap between the rotor and it's guard on the back of the gearbox.

Warm fuzzy feeling to go to sleep on.  Tomorrow, I add oil.
