As far as the welding is concerened, I was talking about stick
welding. Would the 1/8 inch stick not be able to make it in there?

Hmmm, I didn't even
think about stick. My machine will do that too, but I didn't figure I'd
ever find a need for it. Anyway, as I mentioned before, I'll be copying
your intake after all, so it's a moot point.
BTW- I made my first EWP adapter
today. First time ever to use a lathe, and even a successful welding job
on the AN12 bung. I even screwed up the surface a bit, and had to mill it
flat.
