The basis of that theory is to create an invalid email address that sorts alphabetically to the top position. I use a name that starts with “_”.
Bottom line is these types of attacks can originate from anywhere and use any address as a source address. If Steve’s address book/contacts were the source, I would have expected to see the same posts on the Canard list as well.

I have been told that if you add a phony address to your address book containing at least 8 zeroes it confuses these bugs and prevents them from mining your address book.
