of the housings (before and after would be great if you have them)..............

I used Permatex No. 474G valve grinding compound.  It does not tell what grit it is.  I noticed that the grit becomes very fine after about a half hour of use.  At first I added some grinding compound every half hour.  To finish I did not add any compound for about one hour, so only the very fine grit is used for finishing.  It seems to have worked.  I would say that it rotated for about 4 hours in all for two side housings.
 
Yes it is a soft wood plug inside the iron but next time I will use hard wood or metal.  By the time the job was finished the wooden plug was very loose, ready to fall off.

come to my mind..........(1) What grit of lapping compound did you use (and approx how
much time per side) and (2) Is that a wooden plug the bearing is riding in ?.............
