Kevin,

The -6A I used to fly had shimmy = to varying=20 degrees in all 3 legs at times. If I was careful about tire pressures = and nose=20 gear adjustment it would be OK. On the RV-4 (6 flights now), my first 5 = flights=20 all had some amount of shimmy. After adding the stiffeners I finally had = a=20 landing with no shimmy. We'll see how it fares after I've gotten a bunch = more=20 flights on it, but right now I'm satisfied that this problem is=20 solved.

I'm curious as to why you had to keep = "fixing" the=20 fiberglass fairings? Never had any issues with them on my = 6A.

I removed the fiberglass leg = fairings last=20 year [tired of fixing them] and made a new set of 2 piece = aluminum ones,=20 just like van had in his plans originally.  at the same time I = removed=20 the wood gear stiffeners.  I see no difference and have no = problem with=20 shimmy.  the nose gear has the capability to scare the hell out = of you=20 shimmying, but that 's because of low tire pressure or bell washer=20 tension.   just my observations   kevin  = rv-6a [1000+=20 hrs]
