I removed the fiberglass leg fairings last year
[tired of fixing them] and made a new set of 2 piece aluminum ones, just
like van had in his plans originally. at the same time I removed the wood
gear stiffeners. I see no difference and have no problem with
shimmy. the nose gear has the capability to scare the hell out of you
shimmying, but that 's because of low tire pressure or bell washer
