Hey Bill;
We got the basic parts of the scoop from a guy in
SoCal who used to build 70% scale P-51 mustangs. We had some problems
acquiring the rest of the parts we needed to finish, so we improvised. The
cowl controls for both the oil and water are cables, and will be mounted behind
the seat backs within easy reach. The oil and water are separated into
different exhausts. We figured with separate cowl flaps, we could set what
values we wanted. We have designed this to be almost identical to original
P-51 specs, and hopefully will generate some thrust with this
configuration. Good thing about this setup, is that it gets all of the
cooling out of the cowling, and lets the engine and turbo have some room to
breath. Additionally, we are setting it up so that with a transmission
jack, we can drop the whole mess down to do any servicing that may be
necessary. That's the intercooler under the PSRU. Hopefully, the
drag will be offset, time will tell. We are a lot further along than these
photos, will update shortly.

Subject: Belly Scoop
Hi
Greg,
I am anxious to see what you get
on the dyno with your engine! It should be a screamer! What is the
opening size of the belly scoop and where did you get the scoop? I am
thinking of something similar with my FG. How do you direct the air
inside the scoop to go over both the oil and water exchangers? How do
you control the cowl flap? You said manually???
How?
