If the plug is too hot, the pre-ignition can occur - so looks like you need to find some combination that is - Just Right. The only time I attempted to use other than stock plugs on the first flight I lost the apex seals on a rotor. I naturally thought the new spark plugs were the cause, it turned out that after tearing down the engine that the plugs had nothing to do with the lost apex seals, but never got around to trying different spark plugs after that {:>). I suspect that due to the fact our spark plugs are shrouded in their chamber combined with the fact that the stock plugs have the three massive ground electrodes surrounding the point all contribute to lower spark plug temperatures and probably all contribute to the frequent fouling. So a hotter plug with only one ground electrode might do better on fouling.
