Tracy, sorry to beat this too much but I want to get this right …

In the DIRECT from rear iron scenario, I need not worry about the water pump purge hose and can completely seal the pump outlet, leaving just my small filler cap plug?

Ideal point is directly into the tank but "T"d into the bottom port would probably work OK too.

Hi Tracy, I have both of those ports plugged and the smaller one ¼" is the one I was discussing with Lynn … I've seen some installations where this is plumbed back into the water pump … my expansion tank is plumbed from top of water pump outlet to bottom of the expansion tank … see attached.

Should I run the rear iron ¼" hose directly to bottom of expansion tank, or can this be done via the interconnection to water pump?

If direct, I'll certainly not use the clear plastic hose.

Thanks … Jeff

Jeff, there are two ports on the rear iron.  Not sure which one you are talking about.  One is on the side (5/8" heater port which should be blocked ) and a smaller one on the top which should go to your coolant expansion tank through a small diameter hose.  This is the primary point where the block purges air.  If you have this one blocked off, your coolant system is not configured as well as it could be.

Lynn, there is an unused water connection on my rear iron. At present I have a short hose on it and it's plugged.

What about extending the hose a bit and replacing the plug with a snifter valve, or keeping the plug and using this hose as an auxiliary water filing point? It could easily be elevated to the highest point in the system and used as an air burping point on the ground.

Any scheme at all that bleeds off the trapped air is a good idea.
