I had about 4 qts of oil left when I taxied back to the hangar.
I blew two stock turbos and one hybrid before giving up and buying the T04. The engine rebuild after the last blown turbo cost almost as much as the new turbo, not to mention the underware.
Maybe it's just me, but I think that between us we've proved that stock, or modified stock turbos just can't handle the stresses.

I definitely agree - if you have the Turbo in a stock location. By remotely locating the turbo (as much as is possible in an aircraft cowl), you have a better chance of keeping the stress and heat from the Turbo.
It may even be possible to locate the turbo and exhaust in a tunnel under the fuselage, to keep drag down.
Also it is suggested insufficient back pressure on the turbo wheel may allow over spinning in thinner air (at altitude).
If you could address these 3 issues, you would be in a better position for Turbo longevity.
