Subject: [FlyRotary] Re: Dual plugs
It continues to run just fine, Pat - that is if
the ignition has been reset so that both leading and trailing plugs far at
nearly the same time. In the automobile the leading and trailing plugs
fire at different degrees of rotation (I forget the exact difference).
In the case of the automobile a significant amount of power is lost if the
leading ignition system fails because the trailing one is set to fire at a
lest than optimum angle for power (mostly there for emissions control).
I have heard figures from 25-40% of power lost when just the trailing are
firing in the auto ignition set up..
OK, for aircraft usage (for example) Tracy
Crooks EC2 changes the standard Rx-7 ignition scheme such that both the
trailing and leading fire close to optimum. I have switched between the
trailing and leading while in flight and there is insignificant (if any)
difference in rpm or power.
Hope this helps.

How well does a
rotary engine run if either the leading or trailing plug goes
bye-bye?
Thanks!
