Greetings,
I made a quick run of
the single rotor today, with the RD-1C drive, and Warp Drive
prop.
The worst of the resonance
is right where I remember it from before, between about 2500 and maybe
3200. It's pretty clear by sight and sound when I get past it. I
only ran up to 4000, because this was the first run after putting the drive and
prop on, and I wanted to make sure everything OK before going any
higher. I also wanted to see the video first. I'll venture a
bit higher next time.
I'm actually quite
encouraged by this. 2300 rpm is smooth, and almost free from
the fore/aft prop wandering effect of the resonance, so that would make a
decent idle speed (800 prop rpm). If nothing major changes with the
Sensenich prop, I "could" just consider 2500-3500 a yellow arc, and not do any
extended operation there. I'll probably still consider a softer damper,
but not until after the engine is mounted on the plane (pile of aluminum at the
moment) with the final prop. For now, the engine is getting the green
light :-)
For the moment, the engine
has a single Davies Craig EWP, and an oil/water heat exchanger. The water
lines are kinda small on the heat exchanger, and I don't think the EWP isn't
giving me enough differential pressure. I could probably keep either
the EWP, or the oil/water exchanger, but not both. Tough to choose which
of those features I like best. I've got a long time to decide.
Cheers,
Rusty (anyone want an
Autoflight redrive)
