If a few inches of vinyl insulation doesn't terrify you, consider an extension made with ribbon cable & 2 displacement type connectors. Those are the type you typically see on ribbon cables inside older computers, tying all the various components together.

I would like to find an adaptor of some kind to get a lower profile on my EC2. I had the 90 degree end installed, but it still takes up over 2" of space. In my case it will hit the fuel tank. I can modify the tank if necessary. But if it was as simple as plugging a low profile adaptor, that would be the thing to do.
