upgrade.
Probably worth doing before I start the engine. Whats the procedure?
Return box? self install new chip?
Yes :-)
Since you have to
completely recalibrate the EC-2, it would seem easier to do this before you
start. There's also a really nice feature in the new software that allows
you to start with Tracy's actual engine calibrations, rather than all zero's
which is the default. For me, his numbers were mighty close to being
perfect. While this all sounds nice, rest assured that you will
recalibrate the engine many times before you fly, so you'll find that it's not a
big deal to do once you learn the ropes. I've actually joked that Tracy
puts a randomizer function in the calibrations that works for the first 5 hours,
just to make sure that you become familiar with the procedure
:-)
As for the upgrade
procedure, I don't know what the standard procedure will be. The upgrade
requires that you change two chips, and only takes about 5 minutes to do.
The problem is that these chips require a special puller to get them out.
I'm guessing that he will prefer to do this himself, but in my case, he sent the
chips (I'm an electronics tech).
Are you going to Shady
Bend? If so, why not call Tracy, and see if he can burn some chips for you
by next weekend. Then you can just take your EC-2 so he can pop them
in.
