EVERYBODY is trying to get last nickel out of the engine, and you are hurting to NOT get more than "loafing along"!! By the way that's exactly what Robinson did in his helicopters, but just on paper. Big engine and downrate it in the PHB - MCP still translates into "loaf along" for the engine. If I where you, I would NOT try to restrict the output. Get as much as you can without lowering TBO and safety and instead just "don't use it". As I learned in the Robinson safety-course: The transmission and frame can take the full power, as many times as you need it, just not ALWAYS for 2200 hrs. Clear speak: If you are in trouble in a helicopter it is mostly because you got yourself into a corner and do not have the power to get out of the trouble. If you have some spare - great! (Generally, if you can't get out of the trouble with in 30 sec., hell 5-10 sec. - you won't...) So instead of limiting power out put, have yourself limit fuel-input. Ask the CH guys for how long the bird could take 20% more power. The kind of plane the 701 is, you are bound to get close and cozy with terrain sooner than later (or you have the wrong plane for your flying :)....), so downdrafts, tight turns, steep climbs all become well known factors. Don't get used to the extra-power, but make sure you know its there - nice feeling!!
