Michael Ahhhh, Now I get it ! Yes, Andy Veneble had a Marvel Scumbug (sp ?) updraft tractor/airplane carburetor on his Mazda rotary engine. His engine siezed - oil problem I guess, and he replaced it with a Franklin airplane engine of 200 hp His bird is a high wing Christavia. So it can work. Andy had his motor set in the plugs-up orientation, to avoid the complication of the exhaust or wrap around the whole motor. Your idea of mounting the carb in front of the engine might be a winner, if you have the room. If you look at the pictures of the Corvair powered airplanes, the intake route looks long and complicated, yet they fly. They probably need a primer pump with injectors near the intake valves to get started (my conjecture). Ahhhh, Now I get it !
