Well, I did some research, John, and apparently there were/are some pressure regulators that were just designed to give additional fuel under boost. In any event, mine is smaller (and cheaper) than most that folks are using so perhaps I didn't pay enough to get all the features {:>) Or perhaps it has simply not worked properly from the start.

That's strange, Ed. My fuel pressure is the same as yours before start-up, but will change quite a lot with MP. I've seen it as low as 30 PSI during descent.
