I do like the idea of the end cap triangles on the angle brackets. Possibly
one may even be added to the center between the 2 bolts. Washers or doublers
to spread the load as per Lynn's suggestion is good to. I will also add the
back strap (doubler plates) as shown on the drawings for engines over 300 lbs.
I did a quick search for 1&1/2" 4130 in square tube at the usual
distributors but came up short. 1&¼” X1” is all that they show. If any
body has a source for this please do let me know.
thanks for your collective advice:

Subject: Re: [FlyRotary] Re: Engine
mount mockup
Lynn,
Had the same concerns myself at first glance, but when
advised that it was standard on light weight engine mounts, I felt a little
better about it.
My approach would have been a piece of triangled 4130 - of
course this causes bolt/nut access problems, but could be overcome, in
a number of ways.
What it does give is a nice flat area on which to weld the
tubes as well as a wider area to spread the load and two bolts through the
firewall hard points, compared to one.
One idea might be a triangle with two small tubes to carry
the firewall bolts.
Just some of my thoughts on the subject, always looking
for better ways!!
