Here are some details of the drawings for the Flaconar F-12 standard engine mount per design. It is standard on many certified Jodel and Emeraude aircraft in Europe. Hans Teijgeler is running his Engelfeler Subaru on his Jodel DR1050 putting out about 160 hp w/ a constant speed prop on his mount built this way.

I do like the idea of the end cap triangles on the angle brackets. Possibly one may even be added to the center between the 2 bolts. Washers or doublers to spread the load as per Lynn's suggestion is good to. I will also add the back strap (doubler plates) as shown on the drawings for engines over 300 lbs. I did a quick search for 1&1/2" 4130 in square tube at the usual distributors but came up short. 1&¼” X1” is all that they show. If any body has a source for this please do let me know.

Had the same concerns myself at first glance, but when advised that it was standard on light weight engine mounts, I felt a little better about it.
My approach would have been a piece of triangled 4130 - of course this causes bolt/nut access problems, but could be overcome, in a number of ways.
What it does give is a nice flat area on which to weld the tubes as well as a wider area to spread the load and two bolts through the firewall hard points, compared to one.
One idea might be a triangle with two small tubes to carry the firewall bolts.
Just some of my thoughts on the subject, always looking for better ways!!
