John, I switched from the typical aircraft 5606 brake fluid to the new
spec Mil-PRF-8382 brake fluid which moved the flash point from around 240F to
440F. The new stuff is 100% compatible with aircraft brake components
and can even be mixed with the older 5606 with no problem - other than the
mixture will have a flashpoint somewhere in-between the two.
But, others have reported successfully using some DOT approved (Silicon
based I believe), but be careful - some of the Automobile type brake
fluid is supposed to be incompatible with aircraft brake components (the seals
I presume) and can cause the assembly to malfunction.

Ed, I'll take the weekend theory, it will
take the group 6 months to digest all that info you exposed them
to, this week. I'm getting the boot cowl painted and hope
get the final instruments in next and go for the big first start
next weekend.

brake fluid is nascar using or perhaps Lynn? I know there was much
discussion on this awhile back and we don't need to wade through it
again. I will post some pictures midweek when I get everything
secured, firewall forward.

Lockheed 550. DOT-5 compatible. 550 degree wet boiling point. Some big
parts stores and most hotrod shops/catalogs. A must with carbon brake
pads.
