Greetings,
For folks who need an offset, Autoflight in
New Zealand just announced a Renesis drive:
They've made 13B drives before, based on
their universal drive, and a custom bellhousing that they make, but this is
their first dedicated rotary drive. Primarily, they've done Subaru drives
before. I understand the Renesis drive is on an engine in testing
now, but there's painfully little info available, and the Autoflight web page is
nearly useless. FWIW, I've bugged Neil to update the info, or at least
tell me all the details so I could post it here.
DHL is transporting one of Neil's
drives to my as I type. It's the 2.47 ratio universal drive, with a custom
bellhousing for a 13B. The drive is only good for 160 HP, which is fine
for the single rotor, and if what he's told me is correct, it's light. The
drive is reported to weigh 18.5 kg (41 lb), but that includes the starter
and flexplate! By my measurements, this is about 16 lbs lighter than
the complete RD1-C drive that I had before. The complete system (including
starter and flexplate), plus shipping was about $2400.
Don't get too excited about the weight for
normal 2 or 3 rotor applications, because I know that drive will be considerably
heavier than the one I got. In the end, I'm guessing it will be close to
the same as Tracy's drive. It will over the option of an offset prop shaft
to people who need that, but I'm not sure how much it's offset on the larger
drive. Mine is 3.1 inches.
Cheers,
Rusty (single rotor going on the test stand
this weekend)
