Sigh! Yep, no question you are correct, John. But you wouldn't believe the effort in making that board/buttons/display fit a 2 1/4" constraint - as Mr. Ford was reputed to have said .."... You can have it any color you want, as long as its black" {:>).
Seriously, I have only steam gauges so was somewhat constrained by my rather antiquated instrument panel - 10 years ago (how fast time flies) there was almost nothing (that I could afford) that would give a glass instrument panel.
But, perhaps I should insure that the front of the display could be mounted to about anything a person wants. Four screw mounts should take care of that.
Thanks for reminding me of the current trend.

Ed just a thought;
I think a lot of new builders are using very few
round gages. I, for ond, don't have one round thing in
my panel.

You have a good point. Dave.
I wanted to occupy the smallest amount of instrument
space consistent with a readable display. Until the
new OLED type display became available, I just was
not happy about the quality. The old one was
readable under most lighten and viewing conditions
but not all. This one is much, much better.
At the moment, I had planned to package it for the 2
1/4" dia standard instrument hole. The trouble is I
have found no source of reasonably priced instrument
cases. I did find a few metal ones with minor flaws
and even those were $25 apiece on sale.
