Ed,
I didn't know this before but apparently you an get over sized apex seals, I forget the increments.

Assuming the wear seals were all new - are we certain they were? Some rebuilders don't replace a wear part if it is within the manual's specs.
In any case, if you are tearing it down, I would replace all rubber seals such as coolant "O" rings and tension bolt seals. I would go with Tracy's apex seals. Side seals and oil "O" ring seals should still be OK as well as corner seals.
Be certain and check that the apex seal slot is within specs regarding wear or "V"ing of the slot walls. That is what ( I am convinced) caused my apex seal failure at 160 hours. The rotors were used that I stuck in my 91 rebuild and was not knowledgeable enough (then) to check for apex slot wear. When I took them out after my apex seal failure, they were worn well out side the specs - I suspect they were near or over the specs when I installed them.
Let us know what you find, Joe.
Ed

Subject: [FlyRotary] Engine Rebuild
Just got back from a trip to the Middle East – managed to catch a great little airshow in Al Ain, UAE (http://www.alainaerobaticshow.com/html/home.asp) while I was there – no rotaries however ☺.
But now – back to business…A couple of months ago I lost an apex seal because of a failed spark plug electrode casing (that’s the only plausible theory). At the time my daughter was living with us and I had no garage because it was full of her furniture. But now she’s gone and I’m back – so it’s time to rebuild.
The engine has less than 100hrs on it – (say 6000-10000 miles in car terms). And actually it has a lot less because Atkins rebuilt it about 30 hours ago because of low oil pressure - I'm just not sure whether he used all new seals when he did that.
Which leads me to the question - with those few hours on the engine - what seals does it make sense to replace?
Thanx,
Joe Hull
