 Tracy,

Is this the current guidance?  I have never re-timed my engine because of the hassle of standing behind a prop running at almost full throttle.  I have mine set at 35 BTDC static.  I have no success trying to change it in Mode 8, but with 215 hours and (now) good solid power, I hesitate to change anything.

35 Deg BTDC is the current spec for static timing but I have heard a LOT of misinterpretation regarding this proceedure and what it means.  Add to this that finding TDC on rotor 1 is subject to a wide variety of errors and things get very confused.

But first of all, you need to fix the wiring of your EC2 and front panel.  Judging from what you have said, there is almost a 100% chance that something is wrong.  Don't settle for this situation just because the engine seems to be running fine.

PS, Just got back from SERFI fly-in where I got the best alternative engine award.  Could have fainted.  There were several there that looked prettier than mine.

Good to know that timing has that much effect and the crucial manifold
pressure to set it at. I think Tracy's latest guidance is simple to set the
static timing to around 31DEG BTDC and then adjust the ignition timing with
the controller.
If you have his version that has the adjustable ignition
timing.
