Others have mentioned that the smile will try to ingest the boundary layer & isn't likely to be efficient. Others who have gone before have found that a 'snorkel' that reaches out to near the prop is much more efficient. (Kent Paser's book on the Mustang II that goes 240 on 160 hp comes to mind.)
I usually try not to offer technical opinions on stuff I haven't actually done myself, but I'll yield to temptation. :-) Have you considered working on the other end of the cowl, instead of installing bigger radiators & inlets? The guys who go really fast in RV's do it with stuff that's *inside* the cowl, *below the cylinders*, not the inlets. If you're interested, I'll pass on what Tracy Saylor told me about his cooling system (or you could probably ask him yourself, out there on the west coast). Also, take a long hard look at the cowls on the really fast Lancair Legacy Reno racers. I'm thinking about what's happening to the air after it leaves the 2 a/c cores most are using for water cooling.
