I'm not certain, George.  However, I do know that Tracy Crook has been following  Lynn's suggestion using Red Silicon (high temp stuff) for sealing his exhaust flange and has reported no problems (after several years) with his air/fuel indicator running off the O2 sensor.

It may be like the reports that a few seconds of leaded gasoline causing O2 sensor not to work.  While it does appear to adversely affect their intended use in emission control circuitry, it has no discernable effect in using the O2 sensor as an air/fuel ratio indicator. I get about 150 hours on an O2 sensor using 100LL just about 100% of the time.  The O2 sensor appears to  slowly  lose sensitivity during the last 20 hours or so over that period of time.

FWIW

Lynn,
Someone told me that Silicone destroys 02 sensors - is that true?
George ( down under)
I don't know about that. I tune by EGT only.
