Hey Neil,

Good to hear you on the list.  I figured you and Jim had sold your Rv-7 and were just using the proceeds to sail around the warm waters of Florida.  Good to hear you have another rotary project going - a flying one I presume?

Joe,

Apart from plug fouling as already mentioned, the main bearing oil scavenging would be a trick to fix.  Looking at the motor end-on from the trany end, there is an oil gallery inside the casting from the main bearing that runs down and to the right.  (see pic RED line).  Plugs-up it runs down and to the left.  Plugs down it would have to run up-hill.  Plan B would be to drill and tap an external line from that area of the casing to the sump.  I can’t remember if the front main bearing just drains into the oil pump cover or if there is a gallery there was well.

You would have to seal up the oil filler hole and the dip-stick hole and any other spot oil wants to dribble out.

Another rotary project in the works…

don't remmember if this was discussed but can the 13B be mounted and run plugs down?  I know several others have running installations with plugs up.  Thanks for any help.
