Thought some of you might be interested in Paul Lipps response to my e mail concerning his plans for his unique propeller.  I sent him another  e mail asking whether the CS was going to be hydraulic or electric control of pitch.

Hi, Ed!
I'm working with a prop builder, and we're going to bring out a  three-blade CS prop of my design specifically for the RV-series with 150-200+ hp, 150 -240 mph TAS. 'Course, there's a long way to go to get a design, then make and test some to be sure that it is flaw free. When this takes place, there will  be lots of publicity so everyone will know about it. My fixed-pitch three-blade has reduced static thrust since there is so little area outboard, and yet my little Lancair, with a 125 HP O-235, climbs at about 1500 ft/sec at 1350 lb, 110 mph IAS, sea level. I estimate the prop's efficiency at 82% in a climb.
'Wish I could give you something firmer. 'Still no website! Thanks for your inquiry!   Paul

Hello Paul,

I have read with great interest (who has not?) the literature on the effectiveness of your elliptical propeller.

Just two quick questions, would such a propeller be suitable for aircraft flying between 160-200 MPH or do you need a  faster aircraft  to gain the maximum benefit? ( I have a Mazda Rotary powered RV-6A).

Second question.  Would the propeller be more/less effective than the typical fixed pitch wood prop in the take off and climb regime?  In otherwords, does it have meaningful benefits at less that full boogie airspeed.

I realize there are dozens of parameters that would probably need to be defined for any quantitative assessment - but, just a "seat of the pants" assessment is fine.

By the way, do you have a website?

Thanks and Happy Holidays

Ed
