I have
my fuel pumps in parallel and turning on/of the second changes
little. But if you are using one pump and it stops, the engine will
stop in about 1-2 seconds.
A pump that allows back flow if it under-speeds or shuts down, requires a
one way check valve on its output side. Either pump should support full fuel
flow to the engine until fuel is exhausted. Lest there be no redundancy.
The sliding vane 7 PSI pumps in the race car are wired individually
and shutting them off one at a time reveals a warn pump, as indicated pressure
is reduced slightly on the dying pump. A single pump system
is a non starter in aircraft.
