What gyrocopter are you planning on building?

Hi Mark,

Since the goal is to use the single rotor engine, I have to find one that will allow a 200-220 lb, 100 HP engine.

I'd really like to have a tractor configuration, but right now, the Little Wing is about the only game in town. It would accept the engine just fine, but it's only available as plans, so I'd have to scratch build the fuselage.  I have the plans, and haven't ruled it out completely, but it would be a lot of construction work, which I'm trying to avoid.  The good news is that it would be inexpensive, which is nice since I have all my money tied up in the RV-8.

The best option at the moment is a single place Dominator.  They've proven to be safe, and work well with Subaru's and such, so it would handle the weight.  Construction is simple, and could be fairly inexpensive as well.  Actually, it can be scratch built, and I have the plans for them as well.  The cost of the pre-welded components is so reasonable, that I'd never do it myself.

Right now, I need a redrive, and then I can get on with single rotor re-configuration and testing.  I've still got lots to do on the RV-8 during it's test period, and have to paint it at some point as well, so I'm not in too much of a hurry for the gyro right now.

Cheers,
Rusty
