Tracy - I flew Saturday! for
unknown reason I seem to have a bit more take-off rpm with 2 mags than with Jeff
rose. I still have them split l-upper, r-lower and the r runs a bit
rougher, but I ran it anyway thinking they might clear up after months of only
ground runs. I have a real, not to be ashamed of interior now, with a head
rest for the pilot(goodbye beach towel interior). I went back to the
throttle on the column like van originally designed. it puts the throttle
at the exact right height with my center armrest. my steam gauges made it
thru 1000 hrs, so I decided to keep them and spend the $$ on what I actually
use, a nice GPS.
we planned some of the Bahamas trip
tonight. brian's girlfriend has little vacation time (with a coveted grand
canyon raft trip taking the remainder), so it looks like maybe only 4 days in
the Bahamas, 5 days commuting. I have only been to elbow cay, flying into
grand marsh harbor and taking a ferry. do you have any
recommendations? there will be 4 of us. brian is nervous about
visiting friends en route and not being able to get in the air in time each day,
so if we stop by it would be on the return trip by ourselves (Ellen and
I).
attached is the actor that reminds me of
Laura (no, not the hair! :-) it's her eyes. not as evident in a still
photo as in motion.
so come join us in the Bahamas, march 5th
- 9th we hope to be there, weather permitting. (brian revealed his plan to
climb steadily from FL and extend his glide range. I told him we did that
too, until the partly broken became solid, so we flew there at
1200'!) kevin

1st flight)
Made my day to hear you got your wings back Kevin. Reminds me that
we should treasure every hour aloft.
Enjoy that trip to the Bahamas! I made my first flight there a
couple of years ago and as beautiful as it is from the ground, the view from
above was spectacular.

I am happy to announce receiving my
3rd class medical today, no restrictions, no penalties. after thinking
that my condition had ended my flying, and selling my RV-8 project and 20B,
I had a miraculous surgery at UCLA in march which cured my decade-long
headache problem. I still have my RV-6A (1000 hrs, O-320) and would
like to build a 13B replacement.
So, if it ever quits raining I'm
ready for my next flight (having only flown as PIC, passenger-in-charge, for
the past year and sick of it). Guess I'll have to sleep in a tent
like everyone else at the round-up, having no disability now to get me
the guest room at Tracy's :-)
this calls for another trip to the
Bahamas this spring! kevin Portland, or
ps - I enthusiastically endorse
virtual flight surgeons and the "new" FAA for their help and
services.
