Hi, fellow rotary enthusiasts. I have been
experimenting this week (after all, I'm building an experimental) with a side
mount alternator bracket. Here is what I came up with. It is made from 1/4"
aluminum plate, with a 1" square aluminum piece welded on at the bottom which
snugly fits between the alternator ears. I had a 90 degree aluminum angle welded
on at the top to which the stock alternator adjustment arm is bolted to. Very
simple, easy to install, and seems to be pretty rugged as well. I will
probably trim off a few areas of the backing plate to save a few ounces in
weight. I will now put on my Nomex fire retardant flight suit for anyone
who wishes to flame my idea. Hey, if nothing else, it might spark other
ideas or improvements? Thanks for the ears and opinions. Paul
