I also have a MP referenced regulator.   Mine responds the same as "Buly"'s does.  I set it for 42 psi without the engine running.  Everytime I start the engine the MP  goes down to about 34 or 35 psi at idle.  Now I know why!!  Thanks for  asking the questiion Ed!!!
