I chose the canard for build cost, build noise, and forgiving flying qualities.
The cost advantage was plans vs kit cost, and my entire bird cost less than
the Vans basic kit.  Your Velocity kit may not have that advantage.

I was living in an apartment where I built in a spare bedroom, so riviting was
not a welcome idea. The epoxy was not a problem, and finishing was
not a big deal.

I was not a pilot yet, and past 50 yrs old, so I need a forgiving bird, and am
very happy with the canard. 

I hope that you will rethink the RG option.  That fixed gear is so wonderful.
