Great to hear you are home, Chuck.
Having done it away from home, I know what a pain in the
rear end it can be. Also took me approx 8 hours to remove and then
replace. Hot sun, scouring wind, etc.
I would appreciate it when you find the time if you would
measure the width of your apex seal slots particularly at the top. My
theory is that used rotarys whose apex seal slots are worn beyond specs combined
with the "softer" hurley type apex seals lead to broken seals and lost
rotors. If your slots spec out within the Mazda limits then that would
tend to discredit that theory - probably much to the relief of those who have no
idea what shape the apex seal slots of their rotors are in. {:>).

Subject: [FlyRotary] Back in the
air
I have my RV-6
home after driving 13 hours, removing old motor, installing newly built motor,
testing and flew 4 hours home against a headwind at lower than usual throttle
for break-in. The new motor ran perfectly, no oil leaks, two minor water
seeps. Took 9 hours to R&R motor and 1 hour to tune up and
test.
It was the rear (in car) rotor that was bad, one missing apex seal and damage
to rotor visible through lower spark plug hole. I have to attend to my
day job now, I will disassemble the old motor tonight and
hopefully have something more to share then.
