Hi John,

I have used the "clamp on" type EGT probe since 1997 with no problem.  They do have to be replace after 3-4 years due to deteriorate under the rotary's hot exhaust - but, other than that they work fine!  I have detected no gas leaking through the hole, but you do want to check the tension of the clamp right after your install them and fire the engine up.  It seems to loosen a small amount initially and then "sets".  Also check the condition of the clamp ring each annual as they do deteriorate also.

Subject: [FlyRotary] tempurature probes

Due to my set up I need to install the temperature probes about 1 3/4"s out from the block.  I can use the ones that go in though a hole, using a hold down clip or the ones that need a well.  With the ones that need a well, I would have to weld on a nipple with nickel rod after a pre -heat, which is more work.  I guess the question is, will the probes with out the well stand the heat.  Thank you   JohnD        Helping Rusty compete in the ugly cowling mold debacle.
