I mentioned this on Paul's list and thought I'd mirror post it here also. There has been some discussion in the past on cowl building and for those who hate doing it, here's a solution. :-)

I'm in the process of aquiring a large format Milling machine. It will be used solely to produce molds and buck's for composite work.  I should have it in and operational by early to mid summer if all goes well. It will have a very large footprint [measured in feet.. not inches] and the ability to machine anything up to MDF, including high density foam's.  If anyone is wanting a cowl to fit a specific airframe or style we should be able to machine you a buck for your cowl in a short time span and produce a finish from which you can directly pull either a female mold or a male formed cowl. We could also make the buck's for spinners which properly blend into the cowl for a better, more streamlined look. If you'd rather that we do all the composite work for you this also can be arranged. For those who want any kind of cowl scoop's  [ie; a P51 style, Rad diffuser's or whatever] this will also be easily accomplished.  It will also be very easy to build large format molds and buck's. Something like a complete Cosy upper/lower fuse machined from foam, would be easily accomplished. All components will be machined from 3D CAD model's, so if you can imagine it... we most likely will be able to build it for you.  Currently we are only planning a 3/4 axis machine, however it is conceivable that we would add a 5 axis module to the system in the future, granted there is a need for it.  The CAD modeling could also be done to sketch's provided by customers or to their provided CAD models.

Hopefully this will be something that others can utilize to produce complex and time consuming item's.  I'll be posting more info as things progress and we become 'operational'.
