Rusty,
Really good news, you might get Tracy to supply some alternative rubber isolators - probably harder ones? but I'm guessing!

Hi George,

Tracy's drive is gone.  I sold it to someone on the list.  I'm guessing the dampener will have to be much more significant than what is included in Tracy's drive, so I'll start from scratch when I get done with the RV-8.  BTW, how is your engine coming along, and what are you using for a  redrive?  I'd rather just buy one if it exists (hint, hint).

Cheers,
Rusty

Rusty,
Thanks for the vote of confidence, but I progress as finances allow, slowly!
I have decided to look at manufacturing straight cut gears and planet gears with caged needle bearings to cope better with the RPM - those little planet bearings zing along! Hoping to target the magic 300 hp figure.

However for your requirement on the single the Ford units are more than adequate.

Still working on sizes if gears and tooth sizes. I have made some good contacts and am now developing some expertise on gears, materials, shot peening and grinding - with help from some friends I might add!!

No names mentioned in case they don't want to be identified!!

I had though to follow Tracy's damper arrangement - might need something denser ? I have this feeling that because there are severe  torque reversals, ( terminology?), in the single, soft materials may exacerbate these reversals - however I'm guessing. Either they need to be harder or softer!

If Tracy would like to comment - I would be willing to listen!
