Hi Doug,

Can't help you as I have only one alternator and one = battery.  I flew for approx 5 years with two batteries.  I = first had=20 two 25 AH RC-Concord batteries which weighed a total of 44 lbs.  = The only=20 thing I ever used the second battery for was to assist in = cranking.  I then=20 moved to two 17 AH Odyssey batteries weighting a total of 28 lbs and am = now down=20 to  1 17AH odyssey weight 14 lbs.  I use one of the battery = pulsars to=20 help keep the sulfating down and now replace the battery every second=20 year.

I do have a "abnormal voltage" (too high - too low) = warning=20 light on the panel right in front of me and do monitor the alternator = voltage=20 every 15 minutes (or more frequent as I include it in my instrument = scan). =20 With minimum electrical load I calculate I can fly a minimum of 30 = minutes with=20 battery along - which in the eastern US will easily get me within range = of an=20 airport to set it down on.

Tracy Crook has flown over 1600 hours most of that = with one=20 battery also.  Personal opinion, but I am not convinced that adding = more=20 alternators, batteries and their connectors necessarily results in more = safety -=20 but, I do know it certainly adds weight and complexity.

I am debating the future use of two batteries vs. two alternators = and I=20 was wondering if anyone in the group has mounted a second alternator = and if so=20 if they had any pictures of its mounting location, etc.

Thanks for the information.
