Greetings,
After some thought, I've
decided to abandon the RD-1C drive for the single rotor. It was originally
purchased because it was an off the shelf product, though we had no idea if it
would behave with the torque reversals on the single rotor. As Tracy told
me long ago, if it doesn't work, you'll know it right away, and he was right as
usual :-)
Since it's obvious that
some significant time and effort will be required to make the RD-1C drive work
with the single rotor, then I might as well start with a lighter drive in the
first place. The RD-1C really is way overbuilt for a single rotor, and
the weight really isn't helping my CG situation on the Kolb.
With that in mind, I'm
officially announcing that my RD-1C drive is for sale. The price will be
$2500, plus actual UPS shipping charges to anyone in the continental
US. There are 4- 3/16" holes drilled in the drive plate for my
current muffler mount, and some light surface rust on the external steel
parts. It's just amazing how it can sit in my garage for a year without
rusting, then rust in 2 weeks after getting to the airport. Otherwise, the
drive is perfect, and has only a few minutes of running time.
Another option for anyone
wanting the drive, is a different drive plate. I have one of CCI's drive
plates that re-locates the starter to the exhaust side of the engine.
Whoever buys the drive can have their choice of plates. I need to
keep one plate or the other, since I'm getting another set of spacer blocks
from Tracy. My plan is to use the spare plate to mount a starter, and my
muffler, in order to be able to continue running the engine periodically.
Someone recently asked
me to let them know if I decided to sell the drive. Unfortunately, I can't
find the email, nor can I remember who it was. Whoever you are, I'm afraid
you'll have to consider this your notification :-)
Cheers,
Rusty (preparing for all
out RV-8 construction)
