Hi Steve,
I replaced the old hydraulic fluid with a fairly
new formulation of brake fluid made for the military to lower the fire hazards
in aircraft. It is generally referred to by its military specification
number
MIL-H-83282A
it is compatible with aircraft brake seals and the
old fluid MIL-H-5606G so you can simply drain the old and pour in the
new.
However, I could not find it in quantities of less
than 1 gallon, so you might want to go in with a few of your flying
buddies. Its not that expensive running around $18.00 per gallon and a
gallon will last me decades of flying time
Here is where I ordered mine from
click Hydraulic Fluids on the menu to the left and you
should see

Hello Ed,
And what did you replace the flammable brake fluid with?

Yes, Steve, actually at the time it happened I
didn't know about the fire - just knew I had a brake problem - but when
I smelled the burning resin I knew exactly what had happened. That resin
does burn well. There was a moment when I thought I was going to loose
the aircraft given that the fire was burning below and behind the wing
fuel tank - but fortunately got it out before it more than scorched the
paint.
