Sounds like the engine has a consider improvement in power (provided the intake hose stays attached of course {:>)).  A lot of folks will be interested in how well the ceramic coating holds up under action.

Yes, things that go "Whump" followed by some perturbation of engine sound or rpm does get the old thumper a thumping.

Glad it was a minor glitch

Subject: [FlyRotary] Flying again!

Today I took my RV-6, powered by a 2.6L equivalent rotary engine, back up into the sky after its last re-build.

Sure was nice to get back into the air.  Putting on the high compression 9.7 rotors, along with mild street porting and fixing any poor compression that I previously had, seems to have given me about 500 rpm for a given manifold pressure without any apparent rise in the heat load.  I also now have ceramic coating on my manifold, turbine housing, and exhaust pipe.  I believe this is helping temps a noticeable amount.

I kept the MAP under 29 today, which I will do for a while to let things break in.  At 7000', 28" MAP, I was seeing about 6000 RPM and 150 KIAS.  Ground speed up around 180 kts.   Max oil temp was 150 and max coolant temp was 190.  But is was a nice cool day.

Just when I thought everything was going great WHAM!.   MAP suddenly drops to 17" for no reason....   There goes my last hope for a turbo I figure...  I wonder when the tower is going to note the smoke coming out of my exhaust....

I land and taxi back without incident, no smoke..

Turns out one of the intake hose clamps was not on tight enough....  (huge sigh of relief).  Good thing that I have not yet installed my turbo oil shut off valve, or I might have considered switching it on.
