The D581 is smaller, from the photos it looks like it mounts to a flat surface, and it costs less. The only advantage I see to the D580 is I know what connector fits. :) I did find the following information from a Google search. On June 13, 2004, Mark told Ed A. that the connector he was using with his D581 coils was GM p/n 12126487 or AC/Delco PT757, but it needed to be modified slightly to work. GM Parts Direct wants $21 for the connector. Unless we can figure out what connector that is, it makes the total cost for the D581 coil and connector about $46, and for the D580 $36. -- Thanks Mark Bob W.
