Mark,
Good suggestions, never thought of that.
I went to a auto supply specialist the other day and he told me that the wiring is only + ve and - ve ( two wires) and in fact some coils ( in Australia) have non-plug type connections ( thread and lock nut).
Does Tracy use the LS 1 coils for any particular reason i.e.because there much lighter or something like that. I'm led to believe they are very reliable and they don't stock them because there is little to no demand for non-genuine replacement - so that's good info. They are found in the GM V8 here in Australia but the cost is about $150 from GMH ( your GMC)

Also can someone explain the wiring of the injectors, I didn't ask about that.

Joe & Dale,

Just a bit of caution here.  I’m using the D581 (Chevy pickkup version) coils.  I ordered what looked to be the correct connectors, only to find out that they had an indexing lug that prevented them from mating with the coils.  I trimmed the indexing lug off and used them anyway as there is a lock that prevents them from being inserted 180* out.  Just be sure you check it very carefully.  Connectors cost as much as the coils.  Go figure!  You can always do what Tracy did and solder wires to the pins on the coils, then pot the plug hole.  Then use one large connector on the whole bundle.

Joe and Dale,

Correct numbers are D580 and D581........Electrically the same.......D581 is slightly

smaller and has plug and elect. connector opposite ends.......D580 has both plug and

elect. connector on same end.........Bob White is trying to source connectors for the

D581.......He has connectors for D580 now........
