Bernie, my exit is now 120 inch square with cowl door closed Rusty
Sounds like
you've got me beat Bernie. Is this a newer, untested size,
or the one you've recently tested?
Since I never
posted pics of the latest cowl, and cowl baffle, I figured I'd take a
chance now. Attached is a pic of the new oil scoop, which is still
in an unfinished stage. It does appear to be about the right size,
but could be reduced a bit, and perhaps made more oval (wider than tall) to
look better. Rounding out the front of the scoop would improve it's
performance enough to make up for some reduction in size
also.
The cowl
baffle is something I'm reasonably proud of. As you can see,
the bottom rear of the cowl had to be extended downward to make up
for the larger, and lower mounted oil cooler. I open the baffle for
takeoff, close it once at altitude, then never open it again.
As is, I can
run full throttle, max rate of climb (about 90 mph), on a 100 degree day,
until I run out of oxygen. The oil temps never quite hit 190F, and
the Evan's coolant never makes 220F. Aside from some cosmetic
improvements, I'd end up leaving the cooling system just as it
is.
Cheers,
Rusty
