You can bet I'll test
this on any injector I install, including the brand new pair that just showed
up 5 minutes ago.
Unfortunately, mine
clicked just fine when I tested them just a couple weeks ago, but I still
think one is sticking open to some extent. It clearly puts me in a
rich, and erratic condition, and I can't think of anything else that could
cause that (connections, wiring, etc). If the new injectors don't fix
it, I'll have to think harder about the possible cause, but I'm pretty
confident that all will be well with the new pair of primaries. I should
find out this weekend. The DAR will be at the airport around 9:00am Sat
to make me legal, then I'll start replacing the injectors. With any
luck, I'll be attempting to tune again by Sunday.
Cheers,
Rusty
You are correct, Rusty. While if an injector doesn't
"click" it is definitely not for your aircraft, the fact that it does "click"
does necessarily mean it is a good injector. I had an injector that
would stick open (didn't know for certain that was the problem at the time)
while I was flying and cause the EGT on that rotor to decrease 300F. It
was intermittent and would never do it on the ground (which initally made me
think it was some other problem). The engine noise would change slightly
(I guess from guzzling all that fuel) and I would lose approx 150 rpm but
other than that and EGT temp drop nothing showed up. Just about
drove me crazy. Then finally it happened on the ground and by quickly
switching between injector pairs I knew which pair and from the EGT I knew
which injector - replaced injector and problem was solved. It still
"clicked" fine when I took it out.
