Funny you should mention that. Laura and I drove into town in her BMW
330i today to pick up the Mazda Tribute we bought last Last
Saturday. When almost back home, the 330's computer suddenly
went into limp home mode and displayed the (coded) message that the car should
be immediately driven to the closest BMW service center (which we
did).
Now for the statistical analysis of what this means. After carefully
looking over the past performance of all the cars I have driven, I can
prove conclusively that reliability is inversely proportional to cost of the
machine.
Tracy (glad I didn't spend much on my RV-4 : )
Ian,
My wife (before I met her) had a computer in her BMW go out. She
drove through a moderate puddle of water and splashed water onto the case that
holds the computer. It stopped right away and cost almost $2k to replace
the computer. BMW would not support the repair despite the car still
being under warranty because it was "water damage" despite
several letters to BMW America. Apparently there were having a
problem with hundreds of cars with the same problem and didn't want to pay the
piper.
