Laura and I drove into town in her BMW = 330i today to pick up the Mazda Tribute we bought last Last Saturday. = When almost back home, the 330's computer suddenly went into limp home = mode and displayed the (coded) message that the car should be = immediately driven to the closest BMW service center (which we did).=20 Now for the statistical analysis of what this means. After carefully = looking over the past performance of all the cars I have driven, I can = prove conclusively that reliability is inversely proportional to cost of = the machine. She = drove through a moderate puddle of water and splashed water onto the = case that holds the computer. It stopped right away and cost almost $2k = to replace the computer. BMW would not support the repair despite the = car still being under warranty because it was "water damage" despite = several letters to BMW America.
