Thermocouple wire. That stuff just doesn't solder. Some of them can
be silver soldered. Many years ago I made copper/constantan
thermocouples all the time with silver solder. They were never quite a
sensitive as a spot welded TC, but were functional. The nice thing
about copper/constantan was that once you connected up your measureing
TC and your reference TC, you had copper wires to connect to the
voltmeter. (I was using a galvanometer in those days (late 60's.)
Later on, the reference TC was replaced with an electronic reference
which was a lot more convenient.
I'm afraid he really means acid flux.
